Maximized Living Doctor Brenda Kress
22.04.2009 05:29:10

Downtown St. Paul is the location of Maximized Living Doctor Brenda Kress’ practice. Like all certified practitioners in this unique discipline, she is acutely aware of the ongoing need for an adequate oxygen supply and the benefits of developing and maintaining lean muscle mass.

Many of us have a hard time figuring out how to work exercising into our regular daily lives. If exercise isn’t a favorite activity, the likelihood drops even further. That’s where a skilled coach can make a difference.

One of the many techniques in her bag of tricks is called Surge Training. This requires almost no equipment: hand weights and a clock with a sweep second hand. If you don’t have weights, just grab a couple of water bottles or a ream of paper. The idea is to pump the weights up and down while running in place for 20 seconds. Pump and run and get your knees up high. To start the exercise, work at maximum out put for 20 seconds, then stop. Rest for 20 seconds, then start again. Pump and run for 20 seconds, then rest for 20 seconds. Do this for a third time and you will have put in one solid minute of maximum output over a mere 2 minutes, but the benefits are cumulative and will last for a lot longer. With fresh, oxygenated blood pumped to the brain by both your heart and the calf muscles, you will be invigorated and clear-headed.

As with all Maximized Living certified doctors, Doctor Brenda Kress is well trained in the art and science of maximizing oxygenation and developing lean muscle. Her background and skill in designing and teaching exercise programs to all expertise levels makes her a perfect choice for helping you reach your personal life goals.

What Cholesterol Means for Your Health
12.02.2009 17:50:02

What Cholesterol Means for Your Health

What it is: Cholesterol is a wax-like lipid that occurs naturally in the bloodstream and in cell walls and membranes. It is a normal and important part of a healthy body because of the essential role it plays in cell membrane, hormone, and vitamin D production, as well as the digestive process.

Where is cholesterol produced and what are the two types: Cholesterol is produced in the liver and from other fats. LDL is “bad” cholesterol because they help transport it from the liver to the rest of the body. Too much LDL can cause buildup on the inner walls of the arteries that feed the heart and brain. Over time, LD can form plaque, a think, hard deposit that clogs arteries, resulting atherosclerosis. HDL: is the “good” cholesterol because they carry little cholesterol helping to remove excess cholesterol from the blood and tissues. HDLs tend to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it is then eliminated from the body. Triglycerides transport and store fat in the body. People with high triglycerides often have high total cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol, and low HDL cholesterol.

Heart Health Goals: Blood Sugar: less than 100mg Blood Pressure: 120/80
Cholesterol: less than 200 mg HDL: 60 mg or higher LDL: less than 100 mg.
Triglycerides: less than 150 mg.

Are statins safe: Cholesterol lowering drugs do prove to reduce cholesterol levels, however, data suggest that for patients without heart disease, only 1 in 100 is likely to benefit from taking statins for years. ~ ~ Businessweek ~~ January 28 2008

TEACHING KIDS TO EAT HEALTHY

VACCINES

It is dangerously misleading and false to claim that a vaccine makes us “immune” or “protects” us against an acute disease. In fact, it only drives the infection deeper into the interior and causes us to harbor it chronically, with the result that our responses to it become weaker and weaker, and show less and less tendency to heal or resolve themselves spontaneously. Here at Aspire Chiropractic, Dr. Brenda encourages people to let our powerful bodies build up our natural, innate immunity.

Childhood vaccinations seem routine with 9/10 kindergarteners having vaccinations. However, Dr. Brenda knows that there is much controversy with vaccine effectiveness and the dangerous effects it has on the body. Parents, at Aspire Chiropractic tell us that their child developed autism after receiving vaccinations in infancy linked to the toxic ingredient Thimerosal (Mercury).

Barbaro Loe Fisher, founder of National Vaccine Information Center, is fully aware of the problem that children are given so many doses of vaccine so early in life. Dr Brenda and research centers have found the DOUBLING of learning disabilities, ADHD and asthma and a TRIPLING of diabetes due to the increase in vaccinations. More and more vaccinations result in more and more people suffering from brain and immune system dysfunction. Dr. Brenda allows healing from the inside out, by your own body’s ability.

Our bodies were made with an amazing healing and innate power to protect ourselves. Do you think our bodies were made “vaccine deficient”? NO!

Our bodies heal from the inside out…not the outside in! Dr. Brenda, and everyone else who had second grade anatomy, know that the nervous system controls everything in our bodies. We have the most amazing healing power in our brain and spinal cord! Everything functions and heals in our bodies because our brain and spinal cord send signals to our body telling it what to do. For your heart to beat, lungs to breathe and for you to heal a cut or disease…information comes from your brain, down your spinal cord and out the nerves to your entire body!

To inject so many toxins directly into our bodies only creates sickness and leads to further disaster down the road. Health comes from within; it just doesn’t need any interference!

COME TO ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC—Dr. Brenda will check your nerve system for interference and remove it to allow your body to function and heal at its maximum potential! NO VACCINES NECESSARY!

A Drug-Less Alternative for ADHD
12.02.2009 17:34:34

A Drug-Less Alternative for ADHD

In 1990, 900,000 American kids were on Ritalin. Today some estimate the total number of children on Ritalin has increased to 4 - 5 million or more per year America now uses 90% of the world's Ritalin - more than five times the rest of the world combined. Emergency room visits by children ages 10-14 involving Ritalin intoxication have now reached the same level as those for cocaine which indicates escalating abuse of this highly addictive drug. 80% of children on Ritalin are boys.

Q) What is Ritalin?

A) Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a central nervous system stimulant, similar to amphetamines in the nature and duration of its effects. It is believed that it works by activating the brain stem arousal system and cortex. Pharmacologically, it works on the neurotransmitter dopamine, and in that respect resembles the stimulant characteristics of cocaine. When taken in accordance with usual prescription instructions, it would be classified as having mild to moderate stimulant properties, but when snorted or injected it has a strong stimulant effect. Ritalin is manufactured by CIBA-Geigy Corporation, and is supplied in 5 mg., 10 mg., and 20 mg. tablets, and in a sustained release form, Ritalin SR as 20 mg. tablets. It is readily water soluble and is intended for oral use. It is a Schedule II Controlled Substance under both the federal and Indiana Controlled Substances Acts. Since Ritalin is a Schedule II Controlled Substance, the federal government strictly regulates the amount that may be manufactured, through a system of rigid manufacturing quotas.

Q) How is Ritalin used?

A) When abused, Ritalin tablets are taken orally, crushed and then snorted, or dissolved in water and "cooked" for intravenous injection.

There are numerous reports in medical journals about permanent and irreversible lung tissue damage related to injection of crushed Ritalin tablets.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary refers to a "symptom" as "something that indicates the existence of something else." When we see blood, we look for the wound and treat it - we don't just keep wiping up the blood dripping on the floor! When we see an active child, it is criminal negligence to issue a label and force them to take drugs. If we look at the whole picture, we will usually find that the child's essential emotional needs for love, security, discovery, and freedom are not being met.

The false diagnosis of ADHD is presently damaging six million children in the US, and is now being taken by the medical establishment and the drug companies to Europe, South America, and Asia. There are millions of dollars to be made - and millions of children in danger of abuse.

At Aspire Chiropractic, your local Maximized Living Health Center, we focus on your child’s nervous system which is responsible for controlling all function in the body; including brain chemistry. Many children who visit Aspire Chiropractic have had less visits to their pediatrician as reported by their parents because of the specific adjustments made to the child’s nervous system. Thus getting the body to start functioning and healing at its 100%!

Quotations:

“In fact, there is no medical, neurological or psychiatric justification for the ADHD diagnosis. The key 'symptoms' include such behavior as 'often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat,' 'often leaves seat in classroom or in other situations in which remaining seated is expected' and 'often has difficulty awaiting turn.'

Many factors could lead a child to behave in this manner, including a spirited, creative nature that defies conformity, inconsistent discipline or lack of unconditional love, boring and oversized classrooms, an overstressed teacher, lack of teacher attention to individual educational needs, anxiety due to abuse or neglect at home or elsewhere, conflict and communication problems in the family and misguided educational and behavioral expectations for the child.

In my own clinical experience, many such children are energetic, creative and independent youngsters struggling within the constraints of an inattentive, conflicted or stressed adult environment. Thus we end up drugging our best and our brightest.” Attention deficit disorder does not reflect children's attention deficits but our lack of attention to their needs.

Peter R. Breggin, M.D.
Director, Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology
Bethesda, Maryland

The psychiatrist does not do any testing. The psychiatrist listens to the history and then prescribes a drug.

Let me clear this up right now. ADHD is not like diabetes and [Ritalin] is not like insulin. Diabetes is a real medical condition that can be objectively diagnosed. ADHD is an invented label with no objective, valid means of identification. Insulin is a natural hormone produced by the body and it is essential for life. [Ritalin] is a chemically derived amphetamine-like drug that is not necessary for life. Diabetes is an insulin deficiency. Attention and behavioral problems are not a [Ritalin] deficiency.

Dr. Mary Ann Block
author of No More ADHD

We have used drugs as 'chemical restraints' on some unruly boys in order to secure a quick-fix to the larger problems of our society and our schools. I do not believe it is an accident that [ADHD and] Ritalin became the answer for disorderly school children at the same time as the schools were being barred from using corporal punishment. As one tool for social control was taken away, Ritalin was offered up as another.

A Few Simple Truths About ADHD and Stimulant Drugs

Responses to Common Professional Statements Made to Parents About Their Children.

Doctors, mental health professionals, and educators often say things about "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" (ADHD) that are unproven. These same professionals often say things about drugs that are supposed to treat "ADHD" that are not true. This article reveals and responds to six common lies or misleading statements you might be told.

1. "ADHD" is a brain-based biological disorder, caused by a chemical imbalance in your child's brain. The simple fact is that there is absolutely no reliable test that accurately distinguishes between children that are supposed to have "ADHD" and those that are not. The simplest way to counter this statement is to ask for a medical test to prove that your child has "ADHD." Many physicians will respond to your request by saying that the test is too expensive. You must persevere and ask that your insurance company pay for those tests. You can also ask any professional to show you the article or articles in the scientific literature that proves the existence of a confirmatory physical or chemical abnormality that validates the existence of ADHD as a medical disease. The plain truth is that no such article exists. If someone gives you an article, please share and discuss it with someone who can critically analyze it.

2. The symptoms are clearly printed in a book called the DSM-IV (which stands for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association, Fourth Edition). Yes, the "symptoms" are printed there, but as described in point 1, these alleged "symptoms" in no way prove that ADHD is a disease. Furthermore, these "symptoms" are actually nothing more than someone's observations of your child's behavior, and the truth is they are not even reliable as behavioral observations. To be reliable, people must agree that your child has "ADHD." An article in the prestigious Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, printed in September 2000, says that the diagnosis is very unreliable. Many children who are supposed to be "ADHD" are not identified, and many children who are identified as not having ADHD are identified as having it. This means that research done to support the identification and treatment of ADHD that uses the DSM-IV definition totally lacks support. It also means that no medical person correctly diagnoses ADHD. ADD and ADHD are politically manufactured concepts, created by committees of the American Psychiatric Association. ADD was created in 1980, ADHD in 1987. The plain truth is that they are not real diseases in any legitimate scientific meaning of the term disease. To declare otherwise is not medicine; it is fraud.

3. Medication (such as Ritalin) corrects the chemical imbalance. Remember first there is no demonstrated chemical imbalance (see point 1). The brain does have chemicals that help cells "talk" to each other that are called neurotransmitters. However, when a professional says that one of these chemicals, usually a variety of something called Dopamine, needs some kind of correction, and that they have just the right kind of medicine to do this, you are being misled. This idea assumes that nerves only "talk" to nerves that use the same chemicals. That is absolutely positively false. It is a lie at worst, a gross oversimplification at best. It is unethical for a medical professional to state or imply otherwise.

4. The medication (e.g., Ritalin) is a mild stimulant with few or no side effects. "Side effect" is a euphemism; all drugs (alleged medications) have a variety of effects. It is vitally important that you personally research the effects of any drug you might consider for your child. Go to the Physicians Desk Reference (PDR), ask your neighborhood pharmacist to print you a list of side effects, and/or get the references listed at the end of this brochure. You need to find out about all possible effects -- those considered common (such as nervousness, insomnia, and loss of appetite, and those considered rare (such as toxic psychosis and death). The lie that Ritalin is a mild stimulant is even more difficult to maintain since a recently concluded study at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, not only confirmed the similarities of cocaine and Ritalin, but found that Ritalin is more potent than cocaine in its effect on the dopamine system in the brain. Referring to Ritalin as "kiddy cocaine" is not a joke.

It is important to know that the use of stimulant medication can mask the symptoms of potentially fatal disorders that could be causing your child's problems with inattention or activity. It is also important to know that if your child really is having problems with attention and concentration, this could be caused by problems within the class environment (no work breaks, poor environmental temperature regulation, poor acoustics, poor lighting, poor teaching, etc.) or within other areas of your child's life (nutrition, TV and video overstimulation, family stress and conflict, etc.).

5. If your child had diabetes, you would give him insulin, wouldn't you? This is one of the most common, and heinous statements that doctors and other professionals make to parents. It is a heavy guilt trip telling parents they are negligent and irresponsible if they don't go along with the pressure to drug their children. Remember clearly, as described in point 1 above, that ADHD is in no way a real disease; to imply otherwise is a lie. The truth is that protecting your children from toxic drugs is being completely responsible. It is those who advocate these drugs for children who are abdicating responsibility and avoiding the challenge of truly meeting the needs of our children.

6. You are going against medical advice. Physicians work for you. There is something called informed consent. If they have given you false or inaccurate information, or attempted to deceive you in any way, then the advice that they have given is faulty and you can justifiably take matters (concerning "ADHD") into your own hands. It is your responsibility to protect the short and long-term health, well-being and development of your child.

THE OVERMEDICATED CHILD

ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC

THE OVERMEDICATED CHILD

Like adults, children are at the mercy of the medical profession when they get sick. With pills and syrups for every ache and pain, the average child is overmedicated with treatments that may actually do harm. The majority of drugs given to children have never been tested specifically for them, and have dangerous effects in the adult body. Asking questions about natural alternatives is a parent’s first line of defense.

At Aspire Chiropractic, Dr. Brenda focuses on the body’s ability to heal from the inside out without drugs or surgery. As a nervous system specialist, Dr. Brenda ensures a maximized functioning nervous system. At Aspire Chiropractic, we know that health was never meant to be complicated.

Physicians are prescribing drugs on a “best guess” as to the dosage, efficacy and even safety. Dr. Brenda knows that with kid’s bodies in different stages of development, they process medication differently; sometimes faster, sometimes slower and sometimes turning it into poison. Drugs make you sicker, not healthier and complicate the healing process within your body no matter what age.

The problem with this “best-guess” practice is that children can pay the price with unexpected side effects, worsening of the original complaint, allergies to the chemicals and even cause coma and death. Dr. Brenda is not only concerned about these severe outward effects but she also knows that the drugs are causing degeneration and sickness in your body long before these effects are noticed.

Multiple parents report an improvement in their child’s quality of life after beginning routine, family wellness chiropractic care here at Aspire Chiropractic. A healthy nervous system results in a stronger immune system, which could mean less prescription drugs or other forms of drug therapy. So take a moment today and schedule a chiropractic screening for your children at Aspire Chiropractic. If you already see Dr. Brenda, then who do you know that NEEDS to be sent to our office?

6 Ways to Help Your Children Eat Right

6 Ways to Help Your Children Eat Right

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, nearly 20 percent of children between the ages of 6 and 19 are overweight or obese! Some of the risk factors of obesity include diabetes, high blood pressure, ovarian disease, heart disease, and unseen factors such as low self-esteem, diminished body image, and depression. At Aspire Chiropractic, your local Maximized Living Health Center, we encourage patents to be apart of a solution to this growing concern. Here are 6 ways you can become a force of change and a lasting example of health for your children.

1. Establish motivation for your children to eat well. Depending on their age, interests, and physical condition, children are all motivated by various factors. For a 3 year-old, it may be to grow tall, while for a 12 year-old it may be to be the best basketball player. Help identify motivators with your family and use these to encourage healthful food choices.

2. Make good foods easily accessible to children. Most children will reach for the very first thing easily accessible and visible to them. So try slicing up carrot sticks and place baskets of fruit on the kitchen counter.

3. Establish a regular schedule for meals and snacks. If you establish why and where to eat, it is worth the effort for children. This will provide a schedule to your children and also encourages a healthy attitude toward food and an understanding of its purpose.

4. Get children involved in grocery shopping. More then likely, they will go for what is colorful, and coincidentally, the more color, the more likely the food contains higher concentrations of vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients the body needs.

Aspire Chiropractic encourages men, women, and children to start living a maximized life and this is accomplished with proper nutrition, optimal oxygen, management of stress, proper pH, detoxification, and most importantly, maximum nerve supply.

A LAUGHING MATTER
12.02.2009 17:08:27

ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC

333 Grand Avenue Ste 102 Saint Paul, MN 55102

A LAUGHING MATTER

Everyone enjoys a good laugh. Why? Dr. Brenda knows that the human body has a strong physical response to laughter—muscles in the face and body stretch, blood pressure and pulse rise and fall, and we breathe faster—which transports more oxygen through the body.

Research shows laughter also strengthens the immune system, reduces food cravings and increases one’s threshold for pain. While preschool kids laugh up to 400 times a day, adults laugh a dismal 17 times per day on average. At Aspire Chiropractic, we try to increase laughter every day!

Dr. Brenda has a few reasons to fight for a few extra laughs a day.

Laughter boosts the body’s good hormones and reduces stress hormones. A chiropractic adjustment from Dr. Brenda allows your hormone levels to balance which diminishes the formation of disease.

Breath by breath, laughter builds the immune system by boosting the number of antibody-producing cells and enhancing the effectiveness of T-cells. Decreased interference in the spine provides you with maximum immune function.

Heavy laughter can burn calories and provide a physical and emotional release. A laughter workout tightens the abs, diaphragm and shoulders, and can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow. Healing and functioning information from the brain is the primary way the heart prevents degeneration and disease.

A positive outlook can do wonders for your health. If you can look at tough situations as a challenge rather than a threat and take focus off your anger, guilt, stress and negativity, even if only for a few moments, you’ll have the perspective you need to make the most of hard times.

Laughter is contagious. Not only can a good belly laugh improve your health, it can improve the health of those around you. Sharing a laugh builds strong social bonds and a mutual sense of community. At Aspire Chiropractic, Dr. Brenda strives to bring a smile to everyone’s face.

Researchers are becoming more and more confident that positive emotional states are beneficial to health. Fill your life with funny movies, comedy shows and good conversation with friends. Try the lighthearted approach to life’s frustrations: Worry less, laugh more—no prescription necessary!

Come to Aspire Chiropractic, and see Dr. Brenda to ensure that your laughter is benefiting your body the best that it can!

Dangerous Drugs

ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC 333 Grand Avenue Ste 102 Saint Paul, MN 55102

DANGEROUR DRUGS

Why are so many doctors putting children on drugs?

And more importantly, why are so many parents allowing doctors to do so?

Dr. Brenda asks the same questions for anyone being put on drugs…why?

Aspire Chiropractic provides research stating that:

First—Drug companies spent $30 billion on pharmaceutical promotion in 2005, more than $25 billion of which was spent to influence medical doctors, hospitals, etc.—the people who prescribe medication. Make money off you getting sicker!

Second—the majority of medical doctors choose drugs first and treat the symptoms, rather than dealing with the cause of the problem. That means if you visit the doctor’s office with any type of complaint or symptom, you’re likely to be prescribed a drug to mask the problem.

Third—Several studies suggest that many doctors prescribe medications based on the fact that the patient expects one, mostly because they have seen it advertised on TV or in a magazine.

Fourth—Dr. Brenda knows that as parents, your children mean everything to you. Your worst fear is that they’ll get sick or hurt in any way. If they do, you want them to get better-fast. That’s exactly what medications promise: fast, easy solutions.

Dr. Brenda wants to ask you a simple question:

If you take a medication/drug, are you now healthier or sicker?

Drugs are toxic to your body and make you SICKER! Your body was not meant to heal from the outside in! God put the most amazing healing power in your brain and your spinal cord which allows your body to heal from the inside out. If you have a cut on your arm, what happens to that cut in a week? IT HEALS! A nervous system free of interference allows the healing signals to flow freely to all parts of your body. Interference of your nervous system is a subluxation. Dr. Brenda takes subluxation as serious as cancer and heart disease.

At Aspire Chiropractic, Dr. Brenda removes subluxation (interference) from your body and releases the healing energy you have inside your nervous system.

Health was never meant to be complicated…let your body do the healing! COME GET CHECKED AT ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC TODAY!

What Everyone Needs to Know
30.12.2008 18:15:40

ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC

What Everyone Needs to Know
About ANTIDEPRESSANTS!

Antidepressants are the most commonly prescribed drug on the market. That’s a lot of people taking medication with deadly effects!! Even more disturbing, according to a 2004 study in the journal of psychiatric Services, children age 5 and younger represent the fastest growing group of antidepressant users in the United States! That is why Dr. Brenda is so passionate about checking entire families here at Aspire Chiropractic.

Dr. Brenda wants you to ask yourself, should children at any age be taking antidepressant medication? Should ANYONE be taking antidepressant medication? Does the research support anti-depressant usage?

A 2004 study published in the British Medical Journal, found that an entire class of antidepressant medications—more than 30 different drugs—is not as effective as advertised and can be unsafe, particularly with children.

What the researchers discovered:
1. Drug trials exaggerated the benefits and downplayed the negative effects. Pharmaceutical companies compensated the authors of at least three of the larger studies!
2. Compared drug to placebo (sugar pill) and both had same amount of benefit and the placebo without the negative effects
3. Concluded that “confidently recommending these drugs would be inappropriate.”

Dr. Brenda continuously informs people in her office about these studies.

CLEAR WARNINGS: The FDA which approves and regulates all drugs understands the dangers of antidepressant medication. In late 2004, the FDA issued a public health advisory directing pharmaceutical companies to include a “black box” warning on the label of all antidepressant drugs.

At Aspire Chiropractic, Dr. Brenda allows your brains signals and bodies ability to maintain balance to function at maximum potential. This creates a drug/toxin free, self healing, hormone balanced environment within your body and without symptoms of depression! COME SEE DR. BRENDA NOW!

DIABETES-

Lack of insulin or lack of nerve supply?

According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 21 million U.S. adults and children suffer from diabetes. Diabetes was termed a disease based on a group of symptoms that arose due to inadequate glucose metabolism. Dr. Brenda knows that each disease in the medical dictionary is a group of symptoms, warning signs that the body isn’t healing the way it should. The medical model has named each in order to group people together. Dr. Brenda knows that no two spines are alike. Aspire chiropractic realizes that how different we look on the outside applies just as much to the inside of our bodies.

With type I diabetes, the pancreas doesn’t secrete insulin at all therefore glucose is unable to get in and be used by the bodies cells. For type II diabetes, the pancreas can secrete insulin, but not enough to meet your body’s needs. In both cases, glucose builds up in your bloodstream, rather than reaching the body’s cells. Instead of treating the symptoms, Dr. Brenda looks for the cause of your insufficient pancreatic supply of insulin. So why can’t the pancreas produce insulin the way it should?

When we were born, the universal intelligence inside our brain and spinal cord knew exactly how much oxygen to breathe, exactly how to utilize nutrients, exactly how many times our heart needs to beat in order to function optimally and exactly how much insulin is needed for our bodies to function and heal the way it should. Dr.Brenda, and everyone who had second grade anatomy, knows that the brain communicates to every single cell, tissue and organ in your entire body. These signals travel down the spinal cord, over the nerves and control every function in your body. If there is interference within this line of communication, then the body does not heal the way it should and it leads to sickness, disease and degeneration in the body. There is no exception with the pancreas. In order for the pancreas to function at 100 percent, the healing and functioning power God placed in our brain has to be able to communicate freely with the cells of the pancreas. If there is no interference in the nervous system, then the pancreas receives the correct information at the most efficient rate and therefore will function at 100 percent. Aspire Chiropractic knows that a subluxation of your spine inhibits the signals to your pancreas and decreases its function and builds degeneration and disease. If insulin is not being produced adequately, look to the nervous system! Dr. Brenda specializes in checking your spine for subluxation and removing interference within the nervous system. Aspire Chiropractic strives to prevent sickness, disease and early death and allows you to live life to your full potential.

Keep Your Body Energized
By understanding how the foods you eat
affect how your body functions

At Aspire Chiropractic we understand that food is composed of the three basic nutrients: carbohydrate, protein, and fat. The body needs all three in moderate amounts to function properly. Dr. Brenda addresses all areas of nutrition which allows people to fully understand key nutritional concepts and vocabulary to apply to their health.

Dr. Brenda knows that carbohydrates are the body’s primary source of fuel and quick energy source. The glycemic index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrates based on their immediate effect on glucose (blood glucose) levels. Glucose is assigned a value of 100, while other carbohydrates are ranked relative to glucose. Carbohydrates that break down rapidly have the highest GI values and those that release glucose into the blood gradually have a lower GI value. Dr. Brenda has a list of the GI values for selected foods relative to glucose available at Aspire Chiropractic.

The normal, healthy picture of the blood glucose response after eating is that the body breaks down the carbohydrate slowly, insulin is released slowly, and the liver delivers sustained energy for your daily activities. This maintains your hunger long after you have eaten.

So if you eat too much high GI carbohydrate, then the body breaks it down rapidly and floods the bloodstream with glucose. The increase in glucose triggers a rush of insulin (too much) and causes the blood sugar to drop more than it should. Therefore, hunger arrives sooner than it should and eating too much carbohydrate tells the body to store it as fat.

Glycemic load (GL) takes the GI into account but also factors in how much of that carbohydrate exists in an average serving of food. Foods with a GL above 20 are considered high, a value 11-19 is medium and 10 or less is low. Dr. Brenda has a list of the GL values for selected food available at Aspire Chiropractic.

All in all, the low GI index is considered important for a number of reasons. You stay full longer, have a smaller rise in blood sugar, help you lose weight, and improve insulin sensitivity. Dr. Brenda knows the importance of nutrition and has provide multiple health talks and workshops within the community.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Healthy eating requires consideration of much more that just high-and low-GI/GL foods-but the underlying premise is important: providing balanced, sustained nutrition that the body can utilize effectively to generate energy, build muscle, repair tissue, fight infection and perform a host of other functions. The MAIN KEY TO ALL NUTRITION is to have adequate nerve supply to the digestive organs in order to function efficiently and at maximum level. Dr. Brenda knows that no matter what nutrients you put in your body, if your body doesn’t have the right signals to know exactly what to do with each nutrient, the healthiest and most nutrient filled meal will not reap the benefits and have the effects it should. Come to Aspire Chiropractic; start or continue to get adjusted and this will ensure that your effort to eat well will not be wasted!!

OBESITY—A Public Health Problem

Obesity is becoming a national epidemic rapidly. The CDC states that in 1995, no US state had an obesity rate higher than 20 percent, while a mere ten years later, only four states had obesity rates lower than 20 percent. Dr. Brenda has been aware of this unhealthy trend and strives to make everyone aware of this epidemic. Aspire Chiropractic is up to date with recent research, articles, and Dr. Brenda desires each person that walks into her office to know true health and live out their health potential.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, obesity isn’t just about food and exercise-it can be described as “socially contagious,” meaning it is influenced by the habits of those around us. A Framingham Heart Study found that people are 57 percent more likely to become obese if they have a friend who becomes obese, 40 percent more likely if a sibling becomes obese and 37 percent more likely if a spouse becomes obese. If one of two mutual friends becomes obese, the other’s chance of becoming obese increases by 171 percent, even if they are hundreds of miles away from each other. On a positive note, when a family member or friend lost weight, those with close social bonds also lost weight. Dr. Brenda wants you to ask yourself, “who are you surrounding yourself with and are they a positive influence on who you are and where you are going in life?”

So, are there secrets to avoiding obesity? Exercise certainly plays a large role; however, there is no doubt that nutrition is the logical place to start. Dr. Brenda says that maintaining a safe weight starts not by jumping on the latest DIEt craze, but by understanding true HEALth and how the food you eat affects your body.

Dr. Brenda provides health talks and workshops discussing the basic nutrients and the best food guide for our body. Food is composed of the three basic nutrients: carbohydrate, protein, and fat. The body needs all three in balance in order to function properly. Aspire Chiropractic has an article entitled Keep Your Body Energized which discussed carbohydrates, glycemic index, and how is should influence your health decisions.

The most important factor in obesity is a lack of adequate nerve supply to the body. The ability to stop over-eating, digest and absorb nutrients properly, and manage stress properly is all contained within your brain and nervous system. You need to make the smart decisions towards health and that starts with removing interference from your nervous system at Aspire Chiropractic! ASPIRE CHIROPRACTIC
